September 11th, 2001, a coordinated terror attack profoundly affected all of America. At Front Sight, on September 12th, 2001, we took our stand. The day following the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, Front Sight was the first to publicly demand that commercial airline pilots be trained and allowed to carry a gun in the cockpit to protect the flight deck from attack. With 15 firearms training ranges and the instructional staff to handle the training load, Front Sight offered free training to any pilot, allowed by his or her airline, to carry a gun in the cockpit. Front Sight embarked on a TV, radio and Internet campaign to spread the idea of arming and training commercial pilots to carry a gun to protect the flight deck. As a direct result of that, Front Sight trained – free of charge – hundreds of pilots. Working directly in support of the Airline Pilots Association, Front Sight was instrumental in the eventual passage of the Federal Flight Deck Officer\u2019s Program that now allows pilots to be armed in the cockpit. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n That day [21] years ago has become a part of why Front Sight will continue to train pilots as long as there are pilots who want to train how to defend their cockpits from potential terror attacks.
