The right way to have Guns at School
September 13th, 2007
Dr. Piazza,
I feel compelled to send you this message. I’m a “boomer”, fortunate to have been exposed at an early age to the gun culture. Thanks to organizations such as the scouts, 4-H and sportsman’s associations and family members, my life-long passion for shooting sports grew. I was raised in a small community with an indoor smallbore rifle range in the basement of an elementary school, a time before the current hysteria about firearms. My high school years were strongly flavored with the thousands of hours spent at the indoor range with the rifle team. The team members enjoyed great pride in the trophies in shared display with other team sports in the school trophy case.
Then overzealous moms, fearful of firearms, moved to have the in-school range closed. End of an era.
I am very grateful to you and your organization for the excellent work being done to lift the consciousness of our great country. As is often said about a glorious national monument not far from my hometown, “if you are never able to visit you can be comfortable knowing it’s there and well cared for”. I commend you for providing me with a similar trust. The birth of an era.
Thank you Dr. Piazza.
Sincerely,
Roy
