Response to “Makes My Heart Bleed”
February 17th, 2009
Dr. Piazza,
I failed to thank you for sending the video…I shared it with my wife
already and will ensure my three children (two teenage daughters and an 11
year old son) watch it as well. My wife has gained an appreciate for many
of the weapons (GAU-2B, GAU-17B, .50 cal, M240G, M203, M16, M9, etc.) we
fired during my career in the Marine Corps as we occasionally hosted events
for the spouses to fire different weapons on the range. My children have
all handled bb-guns and now a .22 rifle. They have assisted me in cleaning
my various assortment of handguns, rifles, and shotguns, and they know how
to field strip, clean and inspect them. When they have a bit more muscle,
and a few more years of maturity (though I believe them to be more mature
than most adults I know), I will teach them to responsibly handle and fire
them. In the meantime, I will continue to stress safety and respect of
these ‘tools’ as you call them. You video will be very helpful in this
continued effort and I thank you for it.
Finally, let me say that I deeply appreciate your quick response to my
feedback this morning…you are undoubtedly a true professional as well as
an astute businessman. Further, I agree fully that a senseless loss of life
is heartbreaking. The young lady involved appeared to be an absolute gem in
all respects and her young husband, foolish and negligent aside, will have
to suffer the effects upon his conscience until his dying day…and I would
not wish that anguish on anybody.
Positive regards,
Brian
