Front Sight Mail Bag: Government Can’t Protect Everyone
May 17th, 2009
Dr. Piazza,
I have just recently began to get your e mails.
I am glad to see that someone has decided to step up and protect regular citizens rights I have been a Police officer for 17 yrs? and a firearms instructor for the prosecutors office? for? 6 yrs in Amarillo, TX.
I have never been threatened? by a regular citizen with a firearm nor have I been shot at by one. Personally I would rather have a regular citizen with a gun that wants peace than 6 people who preach peace, if I got into trouble on the street.
In fact I have had? regular citizens come to my defense when I was arresting a male for DWI. I was working for a sheriff?s Dept. Just out of the police academy and on my own and back up was enroute but was still 15-20 minutes away. I attempted to arrest the suspect and got in a fight he tried to get my weapon I kept him away from? him but between the fight and him finally being overwhelmed by 2 citizens that stopped to helped me arrest him he very well may have killed me and I would have been just another statistic.
My Dad was a Police officer for a short while and became a federal agent whom is now retired.
I have learned? over the years from him and his stories and my own experiences that regular citizens should have weapons because there is not enough law enforcement to handle every situation that comes up for citizens to protect themselves.? I would say that calling 911 is kind of? like calling evidence retrieval unit, the crime is already been committed and we get there to clean up,? And take someone to the hospital usually or the morgue occasionally.
If you don?t protect yourself the government can?t protect everyone. My guess is that the people who want to take guns have never been in a situation or the victim of a violent crime? that? they could change the outcome if they would have had a weapon.
Mike H.
