Front Sight Mail Bag: You Asked For My Story…
June 13th, 2010
Dr. Piazza,
Once back in the late 70’s, I was walking back to my car from a concert at a place called ¨THE WAREHOUSE¨ in New Orleans, LA. Of course it was late and the neighborhood was not a very nice one. So as I was walking down the street, not using the sidewalk because of limited lighting, a teenage kid with a knife thought he would try to rob me. Not a good idea.
I was about 21 at the time and was familiar with the neighborhood so, although not legally, I had a small .32cal. semi-auto on me. Anyway when the kid demanded my wallet I said sure and pulled my handgun which I had behind my wallet. When he saw the gun he just about peed his pants and took off running. I laughed and yelled at him to find another way to make a living.
I could have gotten into a lot of trouble just for having the gun with no permit, Louisiana did not issue permits at that time. I’m still to this day glad I had it with me. Most times, all a criminal needs to see is that you are not a victim and they will avoid you. And go look for a easier fish to fry.
You asked for stories and well that’s mine. Hope you don’t hold it against me for carying without the permit but it was long ago and I was much younger. And I do have my my CHL in Texas now and carry all the time. Haven’t had to use that permit and I do hope I never have to but if someone obligates me to end their Criminal Carrier ….
Thank You,
Dennis H.
