Desert Storm Naval Aviator Writes In
December 6th, 2008
Dr. Piazza,
Thank you for this report. Back in the late 80s and early 90s (Desert Storm), I served as a Naval Aviator. It was only through constant “dry practice” that we were able to maintain the level of skill necessay to perform our missions and survive the inevitable emergencies. In my second career as a pediatrician, I found the same thing to be true. What surprises me is that I never (and I mean never) thought to apply that principle to firearms training. But of course in retrospect, confining firearms training to live fire makes as much sense as confining training in aircraft emergencies to actual malfunctions and suturing to closing actual lacerations. Thank you for the eye opening insight. I look forward to the next 27!
